The Critics versus the People

There seems to be an ongoing interesting phenomenon where the professional critics take a drastically different stance on films then the regular people.   I have to ask:  do the critics really matter any more?

I side with the people
I personally only go to online youtubers or such for my movie reviews.  I don't think I've read a review from a so-called professional in a newspaper in years.  As such, why does rotten tomatoes prioritize those critics more than the people (the ones that patronize the movies in the first place) by showing only their score first?

Maybe we need a new breed of critics.
